With the women having a bye, it was just the Tiger men that jumped on the bus and travelled up to Geraldton to face the Buccaneers. With Geraldton sitting top of the table having only one loss for the season so far, this was set to be a tough matchup.
After a slow start and some early foul trouble, the Tigers were down 32 -20 at quarter time, with a gruelling battle on their hands. The struggle continued into the second quarter, despite some good ball movement and the team shooting at an excellent clip, the men were facing a 16 point deficit at the half.
After the half time break, the Tigers came out firing on all cylinders and outscored the Buccs 26 – 19 for the quarter, and got it back to a 9 point ball game. At one stage in the quarter, it was back to as little as 2 points. The Tigers put up a great defensive effort, and transitioned into some great shot selections offensively.
Unfortunately foul trouble forced our bigs Hayes-Brown and Vigor to sit for the start of the 4th quarter, and the Buccs began to get into their rhythm offensively. Some big shots from Muo and Coleman put the Buccs further ahead, and they ran away with a 25 point win.
Oliver Hayes-Brown had another solid performance, continuing his streak of double doubles with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists. Damien Scott had another solid game with 16 points and 5 rebounds, and Michael Vigor contributed 9 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks.
This weekend we will be looking for redemption at home again the Goldfield Giants, with the Women at 5:30pm and the Men at 7:30pm.
