The ANZAC round this year was something truly special. With a record crowd of 1169 in attendance, we saw retired National Serviceman Mr Ron Johnson read the Ode, Mr David Scott play The Last Post on the bugle, and the singing troupe from Class Act Performers perform a beautiful rendition of the national anthem.
We had beautiful floral wreaths laid by the team captains for both clubs, our domestic club representatives from Roadies and Tangos, and Dr Jags.
Throughout the night, there were kids making poppy wreaths in the fan zone, Buckets giving away goodies, free player cards and photo ops with the players!
Both Tiger teams rose to the occasion, putting on an impressive display, and taking the win in both games.
Alex Sharp continued her double double streak (5 out of 5 games) with 22pts, 17reb, 2ass and 3 blk. Kiara Waite stepped up with 14pts 9reb and an impressive 5blks to her name. Captain Desiree Kelley also had a double double with 12 pts, 13reb and 4ass.
Alex Sharp was awarded the NBL1 ANZAC medal for the game, presented by Assistant Coach and playing life member Melissa Marsh. Alex was also named the NBL1 West Foot Locker Player of the Week!
For the men, Gorjok Gak was a sight to see with 24pts (including some impressive dunks), 15reb, and 2 ass. Damien Scott was giving his team a bit of everything with 18pts, 7reb, and 2ass. Darnell Hoskins Jr had another great night out with 14pts, a game high 5ass and 2stl.
Gorjok was awarded the NBL1 ANZAC medal for the game, presented by playing life member Clint Read.
The Tiger teams hit the road this Friday night to take on the Perth Redbacks at Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre. Tip off for the women is 6:30pm and the men at 8:30pm. If you can’t make the game, be sure to tune into Kayo as this is the game of the week available on Kayo Freebies!
