The Community Bank Canning Vale Willetton Tigers are excited to announce the signing of 6’9 Lafonzo Smith for the 2025 NBL1 West Season.
Lafonzo hails from the small town of Waynesboro Mississippi, but is no stranger to WA. Smith played in the NBL1 West for the Goldfield Giants in 2022, and 2023.
In his 2023 season, Smith averaged 16.87 points, 7.67 rebounds, 2.13 assists, and 1.33 steals. He had a game high performance of 28 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists agains the Rockingham Flames in the back half of the season, and consistently proved he was a nightmare to guard.
Prior to arriving in Australia, Smith played at Benedict College for the Benedict Tigers where he averaged 8.9 points and 6.1 rebounds in his final year.
In 2025 we can expect some showmanship from Smith who doesn’t mind a dunk! Smith is just as good at facilitating for others. A smart passing big man, he averaged over 2 assists a game in his last NBL1 West season delivering some sweet dimes in the keyway.
With his size, Smith is an imposing presence in the keyway protecting the rim at all costs, and disrupting the other team’s offence. Check out the clip below from the last time we crossed paths with him!
