Cockburn Cougars’ Nic Pozoglou and Willetton Tigers’ Alex Sharp have been named the 2021 NBL1 West MVP winners.
Pozoglou had a sensational season for the Cougars, averaging 17 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. He made an impact on both ends of the floor as he was also named the NBL1 West Men’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Sharp, who also plays for the Perth Lynx in the WNBL, was a model of consistency for the Tigers this season as she averaged 19.7 points and 12.9 rebounds per game.
Both Pozoglou and Sharp were also named in the NBL1 West Men’s and Women’s First Team, respectively.
Joining Pozoglou in the Men’s First Team was Scott Machado (Mandurah Magic), Jay Bowie (Lakeside Lightning), Mathiang Muo (Geraldton Buccaneers) and Louis Timms (Perth Redbacks).
The Women’s First Team featured Sharp, Stacey Barr (Warwick Senators), Mary Goulding (East Perth Eagles), Samantha Lubcke (Willetton Tigers) and Kayla Steindl (Joondalup Wolves).
It was a big night of awards for Willetton as Adam Nener was named the John Gardiner NBL1 West Men’s Coach of the Year, Emma Gandini was named the NBL1 West Women’s Defensive Player of the Year and the Willetton Basketball Association won the NBL1 West Club of the Year.
After leading East Perth to the finals, Blake Srdarev was presented with the NBL1 West Women’s Coach of the Year award.
Two of Australia’s rising stars were highlighted as Rowan Mackenzie (Lakeside) and Jewel Williams (Eastern Suns) won the NBL1 West Youth Player of the Year.
Mark Grist was recognised as the NBL1 West Referee of the Year.
