The Willetton Tigers are excited to announce the key signing of current Perth Lynx player Alex Sharp to their NBL1 roster for the inaugural NBL1 West season.
The 24-year-old Sharp is a 185cm guard who hails from Victoria and was a highly sought after signing at NBL1 level across the country. She has recently agreed to join the Tigers for the 2021 season on the back of finishing her first professional season in the WNBL with the Lynx and made the following comments about her signing for this season.
“I’m so excited to be playing with the Willetton Tigers in this NBL1 West season. I can’t wait to be a
part of such a great club and to experience what the NBL1 West has to offer this season,” Sharp said.
“I think the style of play that Simon likes to coach suits me perfectly, and I’m looking forward to getting out on court with the girls.”
Sharp, who played with Wake Forest University in the NCAA Division One level from 2016-2020, scored 1149 points and grabbed 921 rebounds during her US college career.
She is a rising star within the sport in Australia having represented her country in the gold medal winning FIBA Under 16 Oceania Championship in 2013, the FIBA Under 17 World Championship in 2014 followed by a debut with the Gems at the 2015 FIBA Under 19 World Championship in Russia where the team took home the bronze medal.
Willetton coach Simon Parker welcomed the arrival of Sharp to his roster for this season by saying, “We are very excited to have a quality player like Alex sign with the club for the NBL1 season, she is a really good fit for our team and I also think it is great for the league.
“We like how versatile Alex is on defence and offence, she is able to defend on the perimeter and in
the post and she is very good shooter from range and has the ability to do some work inside also.
“Watching her in the WNBL improve game by game and the contribution she made to the Lynx is really encouraging signs of what she will be able to do in NBL1, I am looking forward to working with her and getting Alex on the court with the girls very soon.”
